The newly formed Shadow Health & Well-being Board met for the first time on Friday 13th May, bringing together Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, Public Health and Health Commissioners for the first time. The Board hopes to help ensure that in Surrey there is a successful launch of GP commissioning.
Michael Gosling, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and County Councillor for Banstead South, chaired the first meeting and has since asked Dr Joe McGilligan, ESyDoc chairman, to co-chair the Board. By a GP chairing alternate meetings it is thought this will help to ensure a shared understanding is developed and improve team working.
Dr McGilligan says he is “humbled to have been asked [to co-chair the meetings] but excited by the challenge.”
The first meeting of the Shadow Health & Well-being Board was ‘very successful’ according to Mr Gosling. The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) was first published by NHS Surrey last October, and it is expected that JSNA will drive many of the Board’s commissioning strategies. The next meeting will be on Thursday 14th July.
