ESyDoc is set to be one of first GP consortia to lead the way and move towards delivering the vision of health care commissioning set out in the July NHS White Paper.
Prior to the dissolution of PCTs and GP consortia becoming fully independent NHS bodies, ESyDoc will develop into a sub committee of NHS Surrey (formerly known as Surrey PCT), in plans put forward by the PCT earlier this month. The time frame for the formation of these sub committees is 6-18 months.
ESyDoc’s involvement as an Early Adopter of the White Paper’s commissioning vision, will allow it to influence how money will be saved locally and preserve high quality services in East Surrey even as the overall healthcare spend is reduced, from as early as the end of the year.
It is early days for the wide-ranging proposals of the White Paper and there is much uncertainty to be faced for those working in primary care. ESyDoc will lead the way in developing an understanding of how commissioning consortia will function, including how member practices will make agreements. Defining what skills are needed to run a consortium will be part the pilot and more specifically, exploring which skills can be gleaned internally and which will have to be sought from outside.
ESyDoc welcomes interest from clinicians and managers at the member practices who would like to get more involved with the pilot.
